Southwinds Monthly Scoop
We get a lot of requests from people to let them know when and where we are going to showing and what dogs will be out.. We have also been asked by a lot of visitors to our website to answer questions that they may have concerning the dogs, goats or sheep. We hope that this page will help. Our goal is to update it monthly with the Southwinds scoop
April is very exciting and always feels like a new beginning - just like spring. I will be out showing a couple of weekends this month. I will have Southwinds Memory Maker (Missy) out in the ring starting her show career. At this time I plan on being in Harrison Ark. The 21st & 22cd an in Grove Ok. The 27th & 28th. If we are in your area please come out to cheer us on.
I am also very excited that I have just purchased my first Katahdin ram, named Charlie. He came from JK Farms in Mounds, OK. So along with my variety of goats, mostly rescue, I will now have sheep. This has been a very interesting undertaking - learning about all the different kinds of sheep and visiting sheep farms. Katahdins are a hair sheep, instead of a wool sheep, and do not require shearing. They shed each year - just like a Pyr. JK Farms has one of my Great Pyrenees as a working dog, so the choice of where to go for my sheep was a pretty simple one, once I had settled on a breed.
Mimi (the Frenchie) has adjusted well to her new companion she got for Christmas - a retired Japanese Chin (Connie). They have become the best of buddies and work hard at ruling the Pyrs. They, of course, enforce all the house rules. I would like to thank Betty Stoval from Shomei Chins for placing Connie with me. She is a joy. Mimi came from Chitawee Kennels. Both were adults when we got them. Please consider a retired, adult dog when looking for a companion. They make wonderful pets and many reputable breeders and rescue organizations have such dogs available for placement.
I look forward to hearing from all of you and seeing everybody out at the shows. If we are in your area - come look us up. The dogs always love to have a cheering section at the shows. If you are interested in coming to see the kennels, please get in contact with us and we can arrange it. We always like visitors.
